900 Twitter Followers Thank You PART 1: Darth Vader vs. Adolf Hitler – Epic Rap Battles of History

vadolf

When I first put together Pittsburgh Jedi, it was mainly because people who I had been friends with for years and years on Facebook, were all of a sudden having their news feeds taken over by my live posts for Pens and Steelers games, etc. Some really liked it and some really hated it, but both suggested that I start a website since I’m pretty dedicated to posting on a number of topics.  I have a big multimedia background but that doesn’t mean i know the first thing about owning and operating a website.  I figured the only way to learn is just to do it.

Here I am less than 2 years later, interacting with over 1200 people on Facebook and now hitting 900 followers on Twitter.  PittsburghJedi.com receives consistent, daily hit counts.  This is all very surreal to me and I really appreciate everyone who has gotten on board with everything Pittsburgh Jedi is all about.  Whether you’re everyday active with me, occasionally pop in and have something to say, or just watch from afar, you guys are all awesome and it’s all MASSIVELY appreciated.  I really dig the community that has formed around the site and the social networking sites.  I have a ton of fun with all of you and believe me, if I didn’t, I would’ve ditched this experiment after the 1st year.

A buddy of mine showed me this video last night.  It’s timely that it came up last night, completely ridiculous in general and I’m shocked I’ve never seen it before.  It’s SO over the top, I figured It would be worthy of the 900 milestone.  Lets keep the good times rollin’, definitely invite your friends to connect with Pittsburgh Jedi, and may the force be with Yinz!

Thanks again everyone!  Enjoy!!!

Gary Michael Houston – Beautiful Day featuring Romance Waddington Official Video

garyDay

This is an artist I feel compelled to offer out for you to hear.  You would be doing yourself a disservice not to give him a listen.  Gary is a guy I can say I’m lucky enough to have worked with and has approached his music career with a worldly approach instead of painting himself as guy from Pittsburgh, looking to take on the world.  You’ll be able to see some of this from his video, Gary has made a point to travel the world, take in the cultures from everywhere he’s been, use it as inspiration and make it a part of his music.  The music he incorporates has jazz and blues roots from the old speakeasy/jazz/big band club days but also expands itself into and past the realms of experimental and dubstep beats and sounds.  Hip hop and rap artist may eventually venture into this world encased, cultured vibe, but doesn’t often start  from the ground up like that.  So often the stigma is from the street to the world and not the other way around.  This is a breath of fresh air to me for this genre.  Proud to say this was created by a friend of mine.

@Coheed And Cambria Performs on Conan Last Night: “Dark Side of Me” From The Album, The Afterman Descension

COnCO

If you’ve followed me on any social medium or just the site in general, you know that I’m a huge Coheed and Cambria fan.  They’re a band that if nothing else, deserves your personal investigation to know what they’re all about.  To say that they’re nothing like any other band out there right now is a massive understatement.  There’s a larger than life, cohesive, and very intelligent  sci-fi story that embodies every song and compiles every album.  These extra layers of the band that other bands just DO NOT have are what makes me such a passionate and devout fan of theirs.

If you’re not a late night TV watcher, Coheed and Cambria played on Conan last night.  They played a track from the second part of their most recent two-part album, “Dark Side of Me” off of part two, The Afterman: Descension.  Immediately following the Conan performance is the album version of the song.  Check it out.

Enjoy!

Downloaded: A Documentary On How Our Generation On Napster Brought Down The Music Industry

The expectations of the accessibility of music has changed in a massive way over the past decade or more.  About 13 years ago, all generations in their teens and older can be held responsible for having a hand in that revolution once we were exposed to the program, Napster.  Whether you used it or not, it changed your life.  Mix cd’s became a business for the early birds who went out and bought the first generation cd burners.  Internet speed mattered in a big way and almost demanded your home to have 2 phone lines to dedicate one to the web.  MP3 players were becoming in demand from the boom of digital music files.  Businesses crashed because they had nothing in place to fight the record losses they would experience through music sharing.  The industry still doesn’t have a handle on it.  My generation’s legacy is surely paired with one of the biggest music and technology hybrid revolutions the world has ever seen.  I’m glad to be a part of it.  Lets keep the party going.

Enjoy.
