I was in elementary school when Mortal Kombat first came out. At the time, parents of the kids around my age who immediately allowed them to own Mortal Kombat, were the first “cool parents” of my generation. That was the house you could go to and know you could get away with a little more, but most importantly, play Mortal Kombat on SEGA or Super Nintendo.
Those were the days of Game Genie, cherished secret game-pad button sequence codes and no internet, let alone online game play. As a SEGA owner (mine still works to this day, by the way), the most popular of the button sequence codes for Mortal Kombat was the “blood code”, which was often referred to as the “blood and guts code”. This would turn a supernatural martial arts fighting game into a supernatural martial arts fighting game that shot blood into the air and splattering to the ground every time you connected a hit against your opponent. It was glorious!!! The blood code was so vital, I still remember it today: [SEGA] On the Code of Honor screen, press A, B, A, C, A, B, B. If you entered it right, the text turns yellow and you hear Scorpion’s famous quote, “Get over here!”
Well the blood code is a thing of the past because Mortal Kombat has more than embraced that the game’s gore and brutality is what defines its identity. It’s been built into the game ever since. Well here we are today, 2 weeks before the Mortal Kombat X release date and from all the gaming reviews and previews, the blood and guts franchise hasn’t taken their foot off the pedal, not even a little bit.
Mortal Kombat X: All Fatalities and X-Rays
I have to admit, I released this around lunch time on purpose to gross you out. That was rude and inconsiderate of me, but sometimes you need to make a little fun out of tiny golden opportunities like this.
As you can see, Mortal Kombat X has stepped into a realm of gore that rivals movies like the Hostel franchise and the more graphic zombie genre flicks. Interestingly enough, there are some iconic horror movie characters integrated into Mortal Kombat X. I’m sure you’ll recognize them right away…
Yep. Jason Voorhees and Predator have been added as special characters to the Mortal Kombat X lineup. This picture is actually very easy to doctor up and say it’s official, so here’s a little something more convincing.
Mortal Kombat: Jason & Predator – Kombat Pack
See? Told you. Well that’s about it for Mortal Kombat at the moment. What did you think of all the Fatalities and the X-ray combo videos? Are you into the addition of Predator and Jason? Hit up the comments below and I’ll see you down there.
Follow me on facebook, twitter and instagram, or as Scorpion would put it… “GET OVER HERE!!!” And there was no other cohesive place to say this above so I’ll just close with it… I don’t care how cheesy they are, I love the Mortal Kombat movies. There… I said it.
