Star Wars Rebels, Rogue One, Jurassic World, Bats V Supes, Fantastic Four… It’s Trailer-Mania!!!

This has been one hell of a weekend for cult franchise trailers. Some are significantly more exciting looking than others, but they’re honorable mentions nonetheless.

Star Wars Celebrations in Anaheim has been nothing short of incredible this year. Rightfully so with so much development going on within the Star Wars universe. If there’s something that seems fairly obvious at this point, it’s that Disney is looking to fill in all the gaps of the Star Wars timeline. The first large and extremely important piece of the timeline to be filled in was covering the Clone Wars. Currently underway, the animated Star Wars Rebels is gearing up for it’s second season, filling in the gap between Episodes III and IV.

I’m getting to understand the animation strategy being used in Rebels. It’s noticeably more round, creating much softer and friendlier features in the characters in comparison to the very sharp and geometric look of its animated predecessor, The Clone Wars. It seems that could take the edge off of what is looking like a story line turning very dark with a quickness, in a cartoon very much meant for young children as well as adults.

Star Wars: Rogue One was teased during Celebrations, receiving a large portion of a discussion panel probably best titled “The Anthology Panel.” The previous mention of Star Wars “spin-off” films were left at that with no real identifier  for categorization or characterization. We have that now. Rogue One will be the first of what Disney calls the “Star Wars Anthology Series”.

Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One – Teaser From Star Wars Celebration Panel

A pretty poor quality video for sure, but they’re being pulled down from the web so quickly, this is the best I could find that was still active. Star Wars: Rebels is the ground work for this Anthology film. Star Wars: Rogue One will cover the mission before Episode IV, making it an all out war genre movie detailing how the Rebels stole the plans to destroy the Death Star.

Then of course, jumping decades ahead in the Star Wars timeline, the phenomenal Episode VII trailer was released at Celebrations.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Official Teaser #2

That brings us to another cult franchise living under a world of hype and skepticism, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. The trailer (set to actually release today, I believe) was leaked via a pretty poor cellphone video of it playing on a TV. As poor as the picture quality was, it was good enough to give everyone a solid impression… and it wasn’t great. In response to the leak, Zach Snyder released the high quality version on via his twitter full well knowing the cat was out of the bag.

I keep coming back to the word, “underwhelming.” One thing to absolutely keep in mind before losing faith in this movie… this could actually be their intention. There are so many Justice League characters we know about in this movie, but none of them are shown. There’s a lot of this story that’s being kept under lock and key regarding the other heroes.

If you don’t know my feelings about the new Fantastic Four movie and how I firmly believe Fox is making a very slimy move to draw attention to this struggling franchise, you can get caught up with that in the link below:

Well… beyond all of that, the movie plugs away and releases a much more character intensive trailer.

So there’s that. I’m not nuts about the movie still but it looks like Fox is at least looking to make it less visually campy.

That takes us all the way to the modern and prehistoric, Jurassic World. Jurassic Park has never gone right. They tried once officially, then kind of twice by trying to bring a T-Rex from the island and make a zoo spectacle of it, King Kong style. That turned out in pretty similar fashion. Then people decided just visiting the abandon islands on their own was a good idea and well… it wasn’t. Well somehow the build-a-dino research is still being very generously funded and the park idea has somehow become a great idea again. Well as you might be able to guess already… it’s still batting 1000 for being a very bad idea.
