2 Years Ago Today In Pittsburgh, This Happened In Market Square And Received International Attention. I’m Honored To Have Been A Part Of It.

A little over 2 years ago, my cousin Kevin contacted me to tell me he was proposing to his girlfriend (now wife), Jen.  I was excited about it and excited for him but also kind of confused since he and I are mostly in contact when it involves sports or drinking.  Then it became clear… he wanted to put on a production to set the stage for his proposal and had a role for me to play.

At the time, Jen had been fascinated by viral flash mob videos and Kevin took it upon himself to organize one in the middle of Market Square, right next to the pride of Pittsburgh, Primanti Bros.  He asked me if I would shoot video of the whole thing so he could later send it out to friends and family later on.  I loved the idea and was (still am) honored he came to me to be involved in one of the biggest milestones of his life.  With a small team I put together and the pressure of knowing we only had one shot to get this right, this is how it all played out… (story continues below)

After everything was said and done and Jen said yes, Kevin and I had posted the video in multiple social feeds to show our family and friends.  We had never planned for this and definitely didn’t expect it, but the video grew legs and took off running.  Before we knew it, the video had gone viral with thousands of hits within days and relentless contact attempts from local media outlets to cover the story.  Shortly after, we heard from entertainment outlets including the Ellen Degeneres Show, expressing interest in the video as well as multiple TV stations and websites overseas looking for permission to use it.  As if two people committing to spend their life together wasn’t awesome enough, the entire world took notice and extended their congratulations.

The video below is the local media coverage from WTAE and a short interview with both Kevin and I about the video and his proposal production.

Enjoy!
